0.3.8 Worklog 3

Hey again, everyone! Sadly this week was extremely busy for me with my job so not a lot of work got done for OO. I always dream of the day that I can commit fully to the game and quit my job. -prayer hands-   Anyway! What I did get done was really high quality.

  • 45 High quality renders
  • Lots of new dialogue
  • New animation training

Yep. Not much progress, but this week is looking better. The event I'm currently working on is a multi-girl event which makes lighting/posing/camera framing more difficult and time consuming. They turned out great so far, so I'm happy with that!

I also had a day and a half dedicated to learning a new animation tool. It should help my animations feel more fluid and allow for seemless blending of face and body movements. I'm excited to learn more about it, but I'm still a newbie with a lot to learn before I bring it to use for the game!

As always, thanks for the support!

Hey, Cryo! Just finished 3.7R and what a fine piece... it's nice to see how far O.O. has come which means seeing how far you have a come in regards to your skills as a dev. It was worth the wait, I can tell you that and more in this small, humble review of mine. Excuse me for any grammar mistakes or weird wording, my english is a bit rusty.

Let's start by the remade parts shall we?

Gotta say that it was very satisfying seeing the whole enviroment changed to a much more sci-fi style. The old prologue weren't bad, don't get me wrong, but it was hard to get the feeling of being in a distant future of a cooperation between humans and aliens until the actual gameplay in the Agni. It felt weird at first because we went from the MC having small apartment to him living in campus, but it didn't take long for that to sink in.

Another thing that was VERY good was having more lore, which also brought a much more interesting first impression of Lym than the old prologue. In the old version, she simply looked like a cute sidekick and first love interest of the MC, but now with all the new scenes like the one at that museum we could see who she actually is, which is what I believe you intended for her from the beginning: this cute yet strong girl who is insecure and lived in the shadow of her older sister, and is sick of that to the bone. And I'm a sucker for game-lore, so knowing more about the events that lead to the reality we see in the game was satisfying.

Still talking about the prologue, but now about the... "spice". I had high hopes about Ms. Saeko's scene and you sure delivered, it was well "re-written" with a bit more of personal backstory to the unspoken relationship between her and the MC, and what surprised me was how smooth the animations were, just like almost every other animation in the game. Normally my piece of shit phone can't handle a bit of character movement, let alone full blown lewd scenes. By the way, I hope Ms. Saeko comes back to be a part of the harem. I imagine that any girls who aren't mentioned in the Captain's Log are sidegirls, like Juni and Ibel. Which means none of them are discarded as one and done relationships... right?

Now onto the main course, the main game that is. Starting by something I just mentioned which is the Captain's Log. It's always nice to have a menu of sorts with information about the characters, even if it is something simple like mentioning what relationship they have with the MC plus a summarized paragraph of backstory.

Everything else stayed pretty much the same mechanic-wise, which is not bad, because you did add the mechanic of warping from room to room using the map long before the remake. I know what they say: if it ain't broken, don't fix it.

However this is where things get a bit dicey... let's talk about bugs now. After leaving Idris, I started noticing three very weird bugs:

1. If I used the clock on the map to skip time, it would warp me to the room full of medical equipment in the medbay.

2. Sometimes the minimap would say one character was in location X, while the expanded map would say she is in location Y. I first noticed it with Dr. Clermont, the minimap showed her in the conference room, while the expanded map said she was in her room.

3. This one is perhaps an even more annoying bug than 2, also very similar. The minimap would show a character with a green circle indicating an event, but the expanded map doesn't. First noticed this with Sybil, and with other characters later on.

With these out of the way, let's end with some things that I missed in this update and have been missing in the overall game.

First thing is a "hide" button. While it's not a major need, and more of a luxury, it's something nice to have. I did try the swipe down function and it doesn't work for some reason.

Second is repeatable scenes inside Agni. Yes, I know that these are time consuming but, like I said before, the smoothness of the animations alongside how well written the lewd scenes were is something that surprised me, so I kind of expected some repeatable content. Especially with all the progress made with each character in the most recent content. From the date with Noel which helped reveal her sweet side to that scene with Nyx in the MCs room (at least for me who was playing the "dominant MC" path) which lead to a major improvement in this "lewd game of power" between them, alongside what was possibly one of the hottest lewd scenes of the whole game so far. So... maybe some scenes inside each character's room during the night using the lust and affection points as a base? And the level of dominance for Nyx, of course.

And speaking of points, the third thing that I haven't been missing until you added these points was a clear direction to the game. To put it bluntly: as of now, what kind of game is Oppai Odyssey?

Beforehand it felt like a kinetic AVN with some world interaction (as much as you can have in outer space). But the addition of a point system kind of questions that, because now what the player does defines if and how many points of he'll get, which kind of makes the choices matter... a little bit.

Then again this is also questionable because through out the game it didn't feel like the points had influence over anything, except for Nyx's dominance which basically meant choosing between the sub or dom routes, but without any connection to the story.

To summarize this part, now is probably the best time to figure out what you want to do with the game. Everything is going smoothly, but choices need to be made in regards to how you will keep it interesting as a game. The story is interesting, heart-warming, funny, engaging and well paced. But it needs to stay interesting as a game as well.

All in all, the game is amazing. Congrats for making this masterpiece, Cryo. I really want to see what comes next, including meeting the gregorians for the first time, seeing Momiji again after so long and finally meeting Kali for some face-to-face truth telling time. At first I didn't trust her, but now I kind of question myself if she isn't a victim as well.

Stay healthy and keep up the amazing work, man!

Thanks, boss man. I appreciate the thoughts you put on paper. I'll try to address a few of your concerns and desires quickly while I'm on my lunch break.

First, navigation bugs: I changed a few events for early parts so the navigation had a few unforseen effects. This build was mostly untested so I'm still working on it, but most of those you mentioned have been reported and fixed.

"Hide" button was added a while ago, but I had to rebuild the Android from the ground up a few updates ago and forgot to add it back. I'll pencil this in for next update.

Repeatable scenes make the lewd interactions less memorable to me. So I will not be focusing on adding them to the game. The gallery exists for that reason.

OO is a novel with sandbox elements, the navigation is mostly used to being life to the ship along with the affection points. I don't want there to be any "grinding for stats" like in other sandbox games.

As for choices and how they effect things, while points don't really mean much, there will be some choices that drastically change the outlook very soon.

Thanks again for all the kind words
